3,800 -year -old citadel in Peru open for tourists

After eight years of exploration and restoration work, the Archaeological site Peñico in the north of the country was opened to visitors on Saturday. It comes from the time of Caral, one of the oldest civilizations in the world.

Peñico is located about 180 kilometers north of the capital Lima and almost 20 kilometers from the Pacific. According to the researchers, it was probably a hub for the trade between the first human communities on the Pacific coast and those from the Andes and the Amazon region.
