The Japanese car manufacturer Mitsubishi was almost dead in Europe – and thus also in Austria. Due to the high development costs (keyword: exhaust gas regulations), they no longer wanted to launch new vehicles between the North Cape and Gibraltar.
This access (or better: departure) from Mitsubishi has changed fundamentally. In order to save development costs and still be able to stay on the market in Europe, a new way was taken.
For some time now, the Japanese have been able to use the French alliance partner Renault. This is how two models already happen: The Mitsubishi Colt is actually a Renault Clio. And the Renault Captur simply means Mitsubishi ASX for the Japanese. This procedure is called “Badge Engineering” – and this is not only widespread in the car industry.
