These are crucial weeks for FC Juniors Oberösterreich: the current last team in the 2nd soccer league has to overtake three teams in order to stay up in the league. Yesterday’s start went wrong at 1:3 (0:1) against the amateurs of SK Rapid. The league comeback of LASK goalkeeper Tobias Lawal after a long injury break was positive. But even he could not prevent the defeat against the more efficient Viennese.
It is not only unclear in which league the bottom of the table will play next season. The homestead is also open. FC Juniors Oberösterreich will no longer be allowed to play in the Waldstadion from the summer. Actually, the second division team would have moved into the new arena on the Gugl together with LASK in the summer. However, the new stadium will not be ready until early 2023. While LASK got extra time for autumn 2022 from the Paschinger municipal council (the OÖN reported), there is no extension for FC Juniors OÖ. If the club stays in the 2nd league, they are looking for hostels for the autumn. Alternatives would be Wels or the association facility, where Blau-Weiss Linz also plays its games, but which is managed by LASK. If FC Juniors OÖ is relegated, things could continue in Pasching. As a regional league you would be an amateur club again. The ban only applies to professional clubs.
Floodlight failure before the Upper Austrian Derby
Yesterday’s Upper Austria derby between Blau-Weiss Linz and Vorwarts Steyr turned into a race against time. Because the power went out and there were no floodlights, the kick-off had to be postponed. At the time this issue went to print, it was not yet certain whether the game could even be kicked off.
