Somehow it was only a matter of time before the noble tuners from Brabus also took on a motorcycle. And the fact that the Bottropers opted for KTM for this pilot project is based on an understandable logic: the Mattighofner bikes are considered young, dynamic, lively. So the tuners from North Rhine-Westphalia put their hands on a KTM 1290 Super Duke R Evo, called “The Beast”. A performance bike.
Refinement for the beast
But: Can a beast be refined at all? Yes, of couse. With one exception: Brabus stayed away from the high-performance two-cylinder. There is already enough lard in it as standard. Namely 180 hp at 9500 revolutions. There was a lot to do for the rest.
The Bottropers screwed the 320 millimeter double disc brakes to Monoblock Z nine-spoke lightweight wheels. Namely forged aluminium. Consequently, it didn’t become an Akrapovic for the Brabus 1300 R, but instead an exhaust system from the company. The pitch-black rear silencer is stylistically divided into two pipes. The look is carbon, because carbon fiber also dominates the rest of the bike: the specially shaped air intakes are designed in the black and gray checkered design, as is the front spoiler behind the front wheel and the short tail. The fact that the frame was painted in the distinctive black fits the picture visually.
The Bottropers created two versions: Magma Red and Signature Black. Brabus added a hearty touch of color to the latter: the diamond-shaped, sewn and heated mono seat screeches in a bright red.
The driver’s display plays all the tracks when you start. Or, better: what Brabus thinks it is. The animated graphics make you smile the first time you see them.
Everything fine, everything noble
CNC milling machines cut various parts from metal blocks, including the reservoir for the brake and clutch fluid, the clutch and brake lever, the footrests, etc. Everything fine, everything noble.
The semi-active chassis with the abbreviation WP APEX can be balanced – using the riding modes. Street, Sport, Rain, Performance and Track. The Brabus bike is an “unmistakable sign of luxury, exclusivity and characteristic Brabus styling,” according to a press release. Acquired a taste? Only 77 pieces of both versions were produced. And they sold out in two minutes.
Brabus 1300 R
Brabus refined the bike, but not the engine. The Performance-V2 is delivered unchanged. The 4-stroke engine with liquid cooling draws 132 kW (180 hp) at 9500 rpm from 1301 cubic centimetres. The unit is a real short lifter (bore 108 mm, stroke 71 mm). the torque is also full at 140 Newton meters at 8000 rpm. The drive is combined with the classic 6-speed gearbox. The power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a chain. The original KTM weighs 211 kilograms, Brabus did not provide any information on the 1300 R.
