People trapped in apartments in case of fire

The fire brigade reported “dramatic scenes” and a “dangerous situation” for residents and emergency services. The helpers were alerted shortly after 2.30 a.m. The address in the cadastral district of Neuhaus was a block of flats with seven staircases and around 60 residential units, which the fire brigade said “considerably aggravated the situation”.

“From windows and balconies, the frightened residents were already calling the operations manager and saying that the stairwell was heavy with smoke and that it was impossible to escape from the building,” the broadcast said. Those affected were instructed to keep the doors closed and to remain in the apartments.

The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished, and the stairwell was cleared of smoke. Two fire brigades with 33 members were on duty for around an hour. The gas and power supply were interrupted during the work and then checked by the responsible energy supplier. There was no damage to the residential units, the police said on request.
