The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline should be left without sanctions pressure. This was announced on Saturday, February 19, by the head of the Bundestag committee on energy and climate protection, a representative of the Left Party, Klaus Ernst.
“After this statement, it becomes clear that Burbock takes into account the interests of the United States, and not the interests of the Federal Republic. Nord Stream 2 must be kept away from this conflict. Or maybe Burbock also wants to stop the import of gas that comes through other pipelines?” he concluded.
Thus, the deputy commented on the words of German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock, who said that Berlin was ready to pay a high economic price for the security of Ukraine. This included the imposition of sanctions against SP-2. She promised that Germany would do everything to “prevent further escalation.” At the same time, as the head of the Foreign Ministry noted, Kiev “can count” on Germany in any situation.
This statement caused discontent among the readers of the German newspaper Die Welt.
Earlier, on February 5, journalist David Bromvie said that the attempts of the American media to present Russia in a negative light because of the situation in Ukraine became too obvious even for the US citizens themselves. According to him, The New York Times deliberately misleads readers in articles for January and lies outright at times.
On February 4, the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said that the timing of the certification of SP-2 would depend on Russia’s actions. As von der Leyen pointed out, the Russian Federation is allegedly exerting military pressure on Ukraine, which is why the gas pipeline project cannot be excluded from the sanctions list. She also clarified that the European Commission has prepared a wide package of economic and financial sanctions against Russia.
The United States and a number of European countries have recently expressed concern over the alleged increase in Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine. Against this background, Western countries are calling for increased sanctions against the Russian Federation. Moscow has repeatedly denied the accusations, saying that it does not threaten anyone, and such statements are used as an excuse to place as much NATO military equipment as possible near the borders of the Russian Federation.
On January 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was not going to start a war with Ukraine, and Western countries and the United States were “hysterically” developing the topic of a threat to Ukraine from the Russian Federation instead of forcing Ukraine to comply with the Minsk agreements.
