British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announced the creation of a government response center to expose “Russian disinformation.” She stated this in an interview with the British newspaper Mail on Sunday, published on February 20.
According to the head of the British Foreign Office, the task of the new center will be to disseminate information about the alleged “disinformation activity of the Russian Federation”. The organization will involve experts from various ministries of the kingdom.
“At the end of the Cold War, we disbanded our information division, but Russia did not disband its own, and for this reason we have been exposed to Russian disinformation for many years. We are responsible [на действия РФ]we are working with our allies to [президент РФ Владимир] Putin could not continue to make statements that do not correspond to the truth, ”Truss emphasized.
According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, since the beginning of this month, 40 cases of dissemination of false information by Russia have allegedly been revealed.
“We have recorded a doubling in the number of cases of disinformation over the past week, we know that Russia is working in this direction,” Truss said.
On February 19, British Home Secretary Priti Patel announced that the kingdom authorities intend to expand the powers of law enforcement in the fight against espionage due to Russia’s “offensive foreign policy”.
Truss previously reported on the possibility of Russia preparing a “false flag operation” in Ukraine. In an interview with Sky News, the British minister suggested that Moscow, as a pretext for an “invasion”, would announce a provocation from Kiev. At the same time, she did not provide any evidence for the unfounded accusations, noting only that such actions are allegedly characteristic of Russia.
In response, Zakharova said that Truss’s words about Russia’s plans to “invade” Ukraine under a “false flag” are disinformation. Moscow has repeatedly spoken about the use of “foreign flags” in Ukraine, but in the context of possible provocations by the West, the diplomat noted.
In addition, she called on the British Foreign Secretary to apologize to the Russians and the British for her absurd statements and anti-Russian fakes. According to her, London’s hysteria against Moscow is connected, among other things, with domestic political problems. In addition, it helps divert attention from Kiev’s failure to comply with the Minsk agreements.
In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that statements about the alleged “invasion” of Russian troops in Ukraine are speculation and “information terrorism.”
Western politicians and media representatives continue to spread numerous speculations about a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Russian side has repeatedly denied such statements. Moscow emphasized that it was not hatching plans for an invasion of Ukraine, and that all measures for the combat training of troops were carried out within Russian territory.
