It is about a thousand year old Khmer Temple and the area all around. Both Thailand and Cambodia have been using the Presat (Temple) Preah Vihear for decades. In 1962 the International Court of Justice (IGH) decided that the temple belonged to Cambodia, but again and again flames.
The latest open conflict has been smoldering since the end of May when a Cambodian soldier died in a ten -minute shot in the border region. On Thursday, however, the clashes escalated to an extent that had never been existent in recent years.
Eight -year -old boy also died
According to the Thai Ministry of Health in the border region, at least eleven Thai civilians, including an eight -year -old boy, and a soldier died by Cambodian rockets and heavy artillery fire. Cambodia fired BM-21 missiles to residential areas, it said from Thailand’s army. According to their own statements, the authorities evacuated 40,000 civilians from 86 border villages.
According to Thai media reports, a small supermarket and a hospital were met. In addition, people in the region are said to have brought themselves to safety in bunkers.
