Just like last year, the municipality of Ebensee canceled all carnival celebrations for this year. There are no official carnival events, masked balls were not even announced. Presumably, many people from Ebensee will not be able to resist putting on their rags on Shrove Monday. But the big hype with thousands of onlookers is cancelled.
The people of Ebensee still want to set an example. The association “Ebensee Fasching” and Mayor Sabine Promberger are calling on the population again this year to set a colorful sign and decorate the houses with rags – also as a sign of solidarity with all those who are affected in some way by the Corona pandemic But also as a reminder of the good old Mardi Gras in carefree times.
At the weekend Mayor Sabine Promberger (SPÖ), supported by her Ohlsdorf colleague Ines Mirlacher (SPÖ) and representatives of the Ebensee carnival association, hoisted the large tattered flag in front of the town hall. “Let’s hold back on the carnival celebrations this year,” Promberger appealed. “In this way we increase the chances that we will finally be able to celebrate a normal, no, a particularly warm and intensive carnival next year.”
Seen in this way, the waving shredded flags in Ebensee are also a sign of anticipation for 2023.
