If from August 6th the “Play Fountain” water playground brings cooling off on the parish square Linz, there will be another innovation: two V-shaped benches, called “wings”, will invite you to sitting and relax. The seating furniture was designed by the design students Clemens Friedl and Florian Koneczny as part of a cooperation project between the Linz University of Art and WAG Wohnanlagen GmbH.

Upgrade public space
The aim of the project is to develop a characteristic piece of furniture that functionally upgrades the public space – especially in districts that are shaped by WAG residential complexes, such as the Spallerhof – and strengthens social exchange among residents. The furniture should invite you to sit and lie, enable communication, consist of robust and sustainable materials, but be mobile but not too easy – according to the planning specifications. In small groups, the students developed nine concepts – based on surveys, material studies and design analyzes. The project was accompanied by Project Manager Manuel Gattermayr and Stefan Lucin and Kunstuni Professor Mario Zeppetzauer.
