This new building does not come too early, because the Traun town center of the Red Cross on Johann-Roithner-Straße bursts at the seams. While moving in in 1981, 49 volunteers and 8 professional professionals were currently involved, 594 volunteers and 14 professional employees are currently running health and social care in the region. No wonder that the premises that the Red Cross shares with the volunteer fire brigade can no longer keep up.

6 bedrooms for 18 night service providers
For 262 employees in the emergency services, only 30 lockers are currently available, 18 employees in night duty have to make do with only 6 bedrooms. Half of the emergency vehicles can only be parked outdoors. There is also a lack of washrooms, material bearings or a separate room for disinfection. And last but not least, the training rooms of great demand have no longer grown. “An too small agency is actually a good starting point,” says LH-StV. Christine Haberlander today at the presentation of the plans. Because unlike other organizations that build on volunteers, the Red Cross has no problems with young talent.
“Well invested money”
The funds for the new headquarters, a total of 6.9 million euros, are therefore well invested money, says Haberlander. The country takes over 5.5 million euros, 1.3 come from the six municipalities in the operational area, i.e. next to Traun, Ansfelden, Pasching, Pucking, Hörsching and Oftering. In times of precarious community finances, this is definitely a feat. “Such a big project only works if you work together,” says Mayor of Traun Karl-Heinz Koll, who is also head of the Red Cross and thus a double host. The Red Cross has to manage the rest itself. The property also finances the emergency organization. “I would particularly like to thank our loyal members and donors – without them this project would not be possible,” says Manfred Hagenauer, district office manager of the Red Cross Linz -Land.
