Badminton once gave the life of Sonja and Klaus Hebesberger the decisive direction. “Back then I met my wife in Kirchdorf while doing sports,” says Schlierbacher, born in Schlierbacher. In 1995 he married his love two years younger. In the meantime, the couple has three adult children to whose love for sport was born.

For Sonja and Klaus, the sports union Schlierbach became a second home, in which people like them make the difference. “Whether as organizers, coaches or simply as people who always have an open ear: they are the backbone of our club,” say those club colleagues who nominated the committed couple for the honorary award, “the badminton association has become much more than a place of sport: it is a family.”

However, the Hebesbergers are not only involved in the approximately 30 active section of the fastest ball sport in the world, but also in the overall club. Sonja, who works professionally in the management of the Schlierbach cheese dairy, is an chairwoman of the sports union with around 1000 members, and also Klaus, nurse in the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Clinic Kirchdorf, works on the club board. He was also used as a football coach for 15 years. One of her sons even made it into the professional squad of SV Ried, and daughter Kerstin (28) is also active on the Union board: “She has been our cashier in the club for twelve years.”

The fact that the commitment of people such as the Hebesbergers urgently also shows is also evident in the major project of the sports union: “We are building the former fire brigade in a new clubhouse from which all seven sections should benefit,” says Klaus. The first part should be ready in spring so that the footballers get a decent cabin wing again. However, an enormous financial effort is also necessary for this. “But Schlierbach is generally a community with a strong cohesion. So we will do it together.”

Ball machine as a wish

But Sonja and Klaus are still fully committed to their badmintonection. Both are active in the championship company, Klaus also takes care of the offspring, which has grown again. “With Corona we have shrunk from 28 young people to four to six, now we are back at 16.” And he also has an urgent wish for his talents: “We urgently need a ball machine for training.” With this cohesion and commitment, which the Hebesbergers have together with many other members in the club, this will also be done.
