Pope Francis and his council of advisers finalize details of the constitutional reform of the Catholic Church

With the new Constitution, which is expected this year, the Pope seeks to capture “in canonical language” the reform that he has promoted since his election in 2013, with the incorporation with constitutional status of his decrees and laws to combat pedophilia and for the financial transparency.

The members of the council of advisers to the Pope are the Congolese Fridolin Ambongo Besunguitalian cardinals Pietro Parolin and Giuseppe Bertello; the German Reinhard Marx; the American Sean Patrick O’Malley; the honduran Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga and the indian Thank you Oswald.

Among the most important points, as Vatican sources familiar with the text told Télam, the new Magna Carta provides for the creation of a new Dicastery dedicated to Evangelization and the merger of several Vatican offices, for example those for Education and Culture.

Of importance will also be the incorporation with constitutional rank of all the new legislation in the fight against pederasty promulgated by Bergoglio, including the abolition of the pontifical secret for cases of abuse arranged at the end of 2019, Vatican sources added.

The new Magna Carta will replace the “Pastor Bonus”, the Apostolic Constitution promulgated by John Paul II, in force since June 28, 1988, made up of 193 articles, 2 annexes and subsequent modifications introduced by Benedict XVI and Francis.
