Zelensky discussed with Biden the recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR by the Russian Federation

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday evening, February 21, announced on his Twitter that he had discussed with his American counterpart Joe Biden the recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR.

He also added that he intends to speak by phone with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

“Discussed the events of the last hours with Biden. We start the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council. A conversation with Johnson is also planned,” the Ukrainian leader wrote.

Earlier on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, as well as an agreement on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance.

On February 21, Putin held an extraordinary meeting of the Russian Security Council, during which its members unanimously called for recognition of the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

With a corresponding request, the heads of the DPR and LPR, Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik, turned to the Russian leader on February 21. They also urged to consider the possibility of concluding an agreement on friendship and cooperation between the parties.
