Newborn seals weigh between eleven and 15 kilograms and can swim from birth. “Our offspring made the first swimming attempts on the third day of life. At the beginning, the mother was always very vigilant and tried to keep it in the flat area of the pelvis,” said curator Rupert Kainradl. The experienced mother cares for her young animal. At the beginning, the offspring still slept a lot during the day.
