The representative of the self-proclaimed LPR in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire Regime (JCCC) Roman Ivanov told reporters on February 21 that the explosion in Luhansk is regarded as a terrorist attack by the Ukrainian special services.
Explosions also thundered on Monday in the area of the Donetsk airport. According to preliminary information, shelling was carried out there. On the same day, the department of the republic reported that the buildings of schools No. 105 on Voykov Street, No. 56 on Novosennaya Street were fired upon by Ukrainian security forces.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, said on February 21 that over the past few days, the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have significantly intensified and brought the situation in the region to a critical state. Against this background, the heads of the LPR and DPR turned to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed republics.
The situation on the line of contact in Donbass escalated on February 17. The DPR and LPR reported heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including with heavy weapons. At the same time, Kiev announced the shelling of the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
