3770 new corona infections were reported in Upper Austria yesterday, Monday, which is a decrease, but at a high level. Exactly a week ago there were 4466 new infections.
A total of 38,454 people in Upper Austria were considered infected or ill yesterday, more than 47,000 people are in quarantine. However, the situation in the hospitals remains stable: 328 patients were treated in normal wards, around 40 percent are not (fully) vaccinated. 32 people required intensive care treatment, where the proportion of unvaccinated is 53 percent.
For comparison: Exactly a week ago, 307 Covid patients were in a normal ward, plus 27 intensive care patients.
The fact that a corona infection should by no means be downplayed or taken lightly is shown by the data from the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK): 15,000 sick leaves are documented nationwide. In addition, there are people who are not insured or who are not employed, who are not included in the figures. In the worst cases, sick leave has lasted for more than a year.
lack of therapy places
Many of the thousands of those affected would not receive appropriate treatment due to a lack of therapy places, the ÖGK calls on the federal government to take action. In addition to therapy options, however, a coordinated offer of rehabilitation – both inpatient and outpatient – including close aftercare is needed, according to Andreas Huss from the ÖGK employee representative body. Another problem: Many long-Covid patients are currently “not visible” because doctors “do not document” the diagnosis. In the private sector, “finally the mandatory diagnostic coding (ICPC-2)” must be created. In this context, chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is an example of how long-Covid patients become unable to work for a long time or even completely.
“For freedom” protested again yesterday in Linz against the Corona policy. According to the police, 127 cars, 17 tractors and two trucks took part in the vehicle parade across the city. Although there were delays, feared traffic chaos did not materialize.
