Hüttenwirt Roman Kurz believed in an error. He has been a hut host at the matrashaus for more than 20 years, which is enthroned at 2,941 meters near the cup of the Hochkönig. Hundreds of guests stop season after season, a cat has never been among them. When his Nepalese employee suddenly called “There’s A CAT” on Wednesday when cleaning the camp, the hut owner assumed a misunderstanding. In fact, a red and white hangover crouched on the floor in one of the rooms.

“First of all, we looked after the obviously young cat with milk and a little to eat,” said Kurz. Then he searched for traces. Because how the fluffy adventurer got into the Alpine area could really explain. A mountaineer who had reached the matrashaus in the morning clarified: the cat had run through the steep Birgkar since the Erich hut, where he had opened at 3:30 a.m.
A good 1900 meters of altitude
Thanks to the host of the Erich hut, the owner of the hangover could be found. In fact, the animal had broken open, had covered a good 1900 vertical meters on its way to the Hochkönig – a distance with which some bipeds would have to struggle properly. In order to bring the hangover – “Gino” to the valley, where it was already painfully missed, the employees at the matrashaus started to move some levers.
