Not good news for fans of star snippers: “The unfavorable requirements” had already predicted the meteor current in July. There was even talk of an “almost total failure” (the OÖN reported). In fact, observers of the spectacle should not get their money’s worth at today’s highlight of the shower. The reason for this is the moon. The last full moon is only three days ago, so the earth drabant is still very bright in the sky.
Due to the bright moonlight, only about 10 percent of the otherwise visible shooting stars can be observed, says Erwin Filimon from the Gahberg observatory in an interview with the OÖNachrichten. A little patience will be necessary. He recommends looking into the sky in the early morning from around 3 a.m. And: tomorrow it is also worthwhile to continue watching.
Tip of the professional: If you want to see as much as possible, you should make sure “not to have the moon in the field of vision”.
