“Through villages, past idyllic rivers and through dense forests”: What reads like the beginning of a romantic natural documentation is actually the description of the routes of the “Sauwald Giros” – at least when it comes to the organizers of the “Team Alpha” cycling association from St. Roman, who is now organizing the Große Schärdingen district tour on Sunday, August 31, for the third time. While the two routes with 1,600 or 900 meters of altitude are extremely varied as mentioned, the development of the tour has only known only one direction with regard to the size of the event: upwards.
“We are expecting an increase in the number of participants this year,” says Andreas Holzapfel, spokesman for the organization team. 350 to 380 cyclists – from professionals to hobby drivers – are expected this year. The previous registration phase was promising, said Holzapfel. For comparison: 280 participants started at the first edition of the “Sauwald Giro”. Almost 200 registrations have already been received for this year’s tour. “In the organization team, we are very hard -working throughout the year and worry about how we can make the event even more attractive for everyone involved. If this is so well received, we are of course very happy,” says Holzapfel.
