As the Ministry of Finance reports, the attempted medication smuggling was uncovered at the end of July. During a focus control, around 25,000 pills were found in the sports bags by two travelers, which apparently were to be smuggled into the European Union from India.
A customs dog had shown interest in the pockets beforehand, which were then examined in more detail using an X -ray device. The customs officials secured the tablets. The alleged smuggler must now expect a financial criminal proceedings and a sensitive fine.
“Cases like this impressively show the professionalism of customs with smuggling. Smuggled medication eludes any quality control and can contain health-threatening or even life-threatening ingredients,” says State Secretary Barbara Eibinger-Miedl.
