The trade in liquefied gas (LNG), fertilizer, titanium and medication has been working since the beginning of the war, as reported by ORF’s Ö1 “lunch journal” on Tuesday.

Accordingly, the importers of liquefied gas paid around 4.5 billion euros to Russia in the first half of the year. The EU relates more LNG from Russia than before the start of the war, said the head of the Austrian Institute for Economic Research (WIFO), Gabriel Felbermayr. “The reason for this is simple and simple that LNG is not sanctioned.” Since this year, practically no gas has been delivered to the EU via Ukraine, as Russia expert Artem Kochnev emphasized. Therefore, the gas requirement on the international market must be covered via LNG, which is largely part of Russia. According to Felbermayr, it could also be obtained from other countries – but due to longer transport routes at higher prices, the economist suspects.

The import of artificial fertilizers is at the pre -war level, added Felbermayr. The fertilizer is generated from gas – and the corresponding systems are in Russia, the economist continued. The price and the short transport routes would also play a role here. As a further example of good trade relationships, Titan is cited, which is required by the aircraft manufacturer Airbus. Medicine deliveries to Russia – for humanitarian reasons – are also not sanctioned. Therefore, there are more exports to Russia than before the war.
