The concrete conversion phase of the Rieder train station will begin next year. Already in September, greater construction work of the Energy Ried begins along Eberschwanger Straße, Am Wiesensteig, Itzingerstraße and Schatzdorferstrasse. According to managing director Friedrich Pöttinger, these start with a natural gas line, followed by water and electricity. Finally, a new district heating line is laid. This will supply the area south of the station with renewable warmth (geothermal energy). “The planned supply performance is 4000 kW, which corresponds to a heat supply of 270 single-family houses or around 1000 apartments,” says Pöttinger, adding: “The Energie Ried operates the largest geothermal project in Austria. In total, we are investing around 1.6 million euros.
The energy company, which is owned by the city of Ried, is currently supplied with 3053 households with district heating. After the work planned for November 2025, which increases the length of the district heating system to 78.6 kilometers, the supply rate in the Ried city area increases by a further ten percent. Over the next ten years, geothermal cover in the Rieder city area of around 80 percent will be the declared goal of Energie Ried and Ried’s mayor Bernhard Zwielehner as owner representative.
New repair department
“Is a repair department still paying off in 2025?” Pöttinger asked himself at yesterday’s press conference. His answer: “Many in the past have exchanged their electrical products every three years. Now you prefer to buy something of high quality and have it repaired in the event of an event.” A few weeks ago, the repair department of the Energie Ried moved from Kellergasse to the 3rd floor of the Red Zac branch at the main square. “You can almost bring everything here,” says Pöttinger, who also had numbers from the previous year. A total of 2566 repairs were carried out. The “bestsellers” were: coffee machines (391 repairs), dishwasher (276) and washing machines or dryers (304). “The move to the main square is on the one hand a relief on the Kellergasse, and on the other hand, it contributes to the revival of the center,” says Zwielehner.
