The Canadian Armed Forces (AF) have delivered a second batch of lethal weapons to Ukraine. This was reported by the head of the country’s defense ministry Anita Anand.
“Today, our Canadian Armed Forces carried out the second delivery of lethal military assistance to support our Ukrainian partners. We will continue to support Ukraine as the country defends its sovereignty and independence,” she said at a briefing on February 22. An excerpt from the speech was published in Twitter minister.
On February 14, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada would provide $7.8 million ($6.1 million) worth of lethal weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. So, on February 4, a transport aircraft with non-lethal weapons was sent to Ukraine, and on February 19, Kiev received rifles, machine guns with optical sights and equipment from Canada.
On February 12, Director of the Second Department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexei Polishchuk noted that the supply of weapons to Ukraine and NATO exercises have a negative impact on the settlement of the conflict in Donbass. He noted that the country is being “pumped up with weapons” very quickly, and mentioned the supply of weapons, the sending of military advisers and instructors to the country.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in turn, stressed that Ukraine is “stuffed” with NATO weapons, and the number of Western instructors has increased many times in recent months.
On Feb. 11, the former commander of US ground forces in Europe, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, explained that such assistance is being provided to Kiev so that it can increase the size of its military and navy.
At the same time, Moscow points out that all the replicated news about the allegedly impending “attack by the RF Armed Forces” on Ukraine are conjectures of Western politicians and journalists. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, such publications have nothing to do with reality and Russia has never hatched plans to attack other countries.
As the Russian side has repeatedly emphasized, such accusations are being used as a pretext to place as much NATO military equipment as possible at the Russian borders. In addition, the militarization of Kiev poses a real threat of escalation in the Donbass.
