“The Ministry of Health can confirm that the first delivery of the vaccine from Novavax should arrive in Austria tomorrow. Delivery to the federal states will then take place next week,” it said after an APA request. Austria has ordered 750,000 doses of Novavax for the first quarter of 2022.
This is intended to address in particular those people who have previously refused vaccination. The Novavax agent is the fifth corona vaccine that has been approved in the EU. Two doses are injected about three weeks apart. It is a protein vaccine – it is therefore based on a different technology than the previously available corona preparations. The effectiveness for protection against symptomatic infections was given by the EU medicines authority EMA at around 90 percent.
First of all, a fixed delivery promise arrived in Lower Austria on Wednesday, said LHStv. Stephan Pernkopf (ÖVP) and Health Minister Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig (SPÖ). Nuvaxovid could “contribute to the fact that the vaccination rate in our state, which is high in comparison to other countries, continues to increase, since many people have been waiting for this special vaccine”.
For the currently 10,082 pre-registered Lower Austrians and all other interested parties aged 18 and over, Nuvaxovid will be available in all Lower Austrian provincial vaccination centers from next Wednesday without an appointment. Ordinations can also order the vaccine. “There are enough cans available,” informed the state politicians. Two vaccinations at intervals of two weeks are recommended for the basic immunization.
