The EU will meet over the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and is already thinking of a refugee crisis

In the call, Michel detailed that the agenda of the summit will focus on “the latest developments, how to protect an international order based on laws, how to relate to Russia and how we support Ukraine and the Ukrainians.”

“It is important that we remain united and determined, and that together we define our collective approach and our actions,” said the head of the European Council.

In this way, this special summit will take place after the EU adopted sanctions against Russian officials for the recognition of two breakaway territories of Ukraine as independent republics.

Another concern of the European Union is the refugee crisis that could arise if Russia invades Ukraine and a war breaks out.

A Russian invasion of Ukraine could generate a “new refugee crisis” with up to five million people displacedwarned the US ambassador to the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday.

“If Russia continues down this path, it could – according to our estimates – create a new refugee crisis, one of the largest in the world today,” said Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
