“The talks are at a critical and important moment”declared the official after a meeting with his counterpart from Oman, Badr al-Busaidi, who visited Tehran.
“We hope that some sensitive and important issues will be realistically resolved by Western partners in the coming days,” Amir Abdollahian said.
The minister said he was “optimistic”, but insisted that Iran is not going to set aside the limits or “red lines” that he considers essential in these negotiations, although he did not give more details in this regard.
Iran’s chief negotiator Ali Bagheri is scheduled to return to Tehran briefly for consultations with the country’s leaders, while “dialogue continues in Vienna,” a source told AFP on Wednesday.
In Vienna, the negotiations aim to save the 2015 agreement that wanted to prevent Iran from acquiring the atomic weapon, intentions that the authorities of the Islamic Republic always denied.
The agreement signed between Iran, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom and Russia) plus Germany allowed the end of international sanctions against Iran in exchange for strict limits on the nuclear program .
The withdrawal of the United States from this pact, in 2018, implied the reinstatement of sanctions. In response, Iran decided not to continue fulfilling part of the commitments expressed in the pact.
The United States participates indirectly in the Vienna negotiations. In recent days, participants had admitted that progress was being made.
