Fake PCR tests: woman from Tulln convicted

Because she is said to have forged at least 40 corona PCR test certificates for herself and others, a woman was sentenced to a fine of 800 euros at the St. Pölten regional court on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old from the Tulln district was found guilty of data falsification. She was acquitted of the charge of intentionally endangering people with communicable diseases. The judgment is not final.

The public prosecutor accused the Lower Austrian of having changed at least 100 electronic PCR test certificates using an image editing program from June 9 to October 16, 2021 and having made them available to ten other people via the WhatsApp messenger service. The young woman pleaded guilty. According to her estimates, she made about 40 forgeries by changing the date, name and date of birth.

She “didn’t think about what would happen to me if I did it,” said the accused: “Someone showed me that and then I did it myself.” She had been asked by others and “didn’t want to say no”. She had not given any thought to whether the recipients of the certificates were corona positive. She was sentenced to a fine of 200 daily rates of four euros for data falsification. In the event of non-compliance, a substitute imprisonment of 100 days was stipulated.
