Russia closed the airspace on the border with Ukraine, according to Kiev

Ukrainian authorities reported that Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporozhye airports remained closed tonight, according to the Ukrainian news agency Unian.

The German airline Lufthansa announced on Saturday the suspension of its flights to Ukraine, according to the Europa Press agency.

The next day, other airlines from the same group – Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings – reported the cancellation of their flights to Ukraine.

So far this week, Russia has recognized the sovereignty of Donetsk and Lugansk, two pro-Russian breakaway Ukrainian provinces.

Moscow announced today that Donetsk and Lugansk have asked the Kremlin for military support in the face of what they consider an “aggression” by the Ukrainian armed forces.

Meanwhile, Ukraine demanded “security guarantees” from both Russia and the international community, and called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council, the second similar meeting in three days.
