After the tip in July 2021, the Croatian was investigated by the “Solbe” criminal investigation group (social benefit fraud). The man had once worked in Austria, as the police said when asked by the APA, but then had an accident and had moved back to his homeland. He had official correspondence sent to a bogus address in Graz and has received unemployment benefits and emergency assistance of around 97,000 euros from the AMS since 2012.
With the fake residence, the 61-year-old also obtained social security benefits by fraud. After his accident, he continued to claim medical services, medicines and sick pay from the health insurance company in the amount of around 19,700 euros. He also illegally obtained benefits from the Graz tax office, such as family allowances of around 14,000 euros.
When questioned, the 61-year-old initially denied the fraud, but then made a partial confession in the face of the evidence. He is shown.
