Man couldn’t pay the bill – kidnapped and blackmailed

According to the official, an average three-digit euro amount was handed over in Innsbruck. The man was neither tied up nor gagged in the course of his kidnapping, but was “verbally threatened during the course of the incarceration”. The three main suspects — a 50-year-old Iraqi man and two Syrians, 36 and 31 years old respectively — are not car dealers themselves but are connected to the car shop where the Iraqi bought the car, the inspector said.

Two days after the incident, the blackmailed Iraqi filed a complaint. The Wörgl police were able to identify the three main suspects, as well as a 30-year-old Iraqi man who was also involved in the crime, and two underage Iraqi nationals who are now 14 years old each.

The public prosecutor’s office in Innsbruck then issued national arrest warrants and a European arrest warrant against the four adult suspects. The 50-year-old Iraqi was arrested in Germany in January and handed over to Austria. The other suspects were arrested at the end of December or the beginning of January and, after being questioned, taken to the Innsbruck prison. The three main suspects are in custody.
