“The ongoing special operation” of the Russian Armed Forces does not seek to “occupy” Ukraine and one of the objectives is, however, the “demilitarization” of the country, the “neutralization” of its military potential, the Kremlin clarified.
According to Peskov, Ukraine’s military potential “has grown considerably recently”, among other reasons thanks to the “vigorous activity of foreign countries”.
He also detailed that it will be Putin who determines the end of the operation and specified that the Kremlin “does not feel comfortable” commenting on the military operation. “Ask the military,” he replied to the press, who questioned him about whether the operation is being carried out only in Donetsk and Lugansk.
Peskov, on the other hand, rejected the idea of Russia being sequestered “behind an iron curtain.” “It’s just impossible,” he stressed.
Putin announced a “military operation” in eastern Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday, days after recognizing the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. In response, Ukraine has said it is breaking off relations with Moscow.
