Can the city of Ried cheer on a Bundesliga title on Sunday evening? The ladies of the UTC Fischer Ried have this in their hands at the final game in Salzburg against Weigelsdorf (Lower Austria), or rather on the racket. The start is at 11 a.m.
The Rieders won all four preliminary round games, in the semi-finals there was a sovereign 5-0 win against the Graz Park Club. The Rieder tennis ladies know the feeling of the final. After 2021, 2023 and 2024, they will be in the Bundesliga final tomorrow.
Does Sinja Kraus play?
In the fourth attempt, after three defeats in the past, each against the OÖ team from Linz, it should finally work with the first final success. Some will depend on whether Ried’s number one, Sinja Kraus, who is in the world rankings in 129, will play.
The 23-year-old takes part in an international tournament in Vienna this week. If Kraus does not make it to the final of the tournament on Sunday, it will probably be available.
“When Sinja Kraus plays, it definitely increases our chances,” says Florian Reiter, sporting director of UTC Ried, in an interview with the OÖNachrichten. The final will not be the first duel with Weigelsdorf this season: In the group phase, the Riedinnen won 7-0. “This is good for self -confidence, but in my opinion it is not very important for this final.” In terms of installation – five individuals and two doubles are played – some changes are expected on both sides, said Reiter.
While Ried had no chance at the 2021 and 2024 final, in 2023 it was only a single point from the big title dream. In the decisive doubles, Ried awarded a match ball.
“Prone to the season”
“A success on Sunday would be the reward for a team that has been combined in this constellation since 2020. Due to the constant achievements, the girls have definitely deserved a title,” says Reiter. But you don’t have any pressure. “The course of the season so far was really outstanding. Of course we now want to bring the championship to Ried,” emphasizes sports director Reiter.
“We all are pleased that we will be in the final again this year and can play for the title. We have always been close to the past few years, but this year we want to do it. We are all very motivated,” says Ried’s number three, Arabella Koller. The final in Salzburg is a home game for the 25-year-old. “I will try to use this home advantage,” says Koller.
