For hours, the mountain rescuers from St. Wolfgang stood on the south side of the Schafberg on Friday evening in rain, fog and strong wind. Despite the announced bad weather front, three young women from the Czech Republic had tackled the very demanding Purtschellersteig and had come to mountainous. The accident began in the early afternoon: one of the hikers had slipped and got into rough, steep terrain. A friend climbed down to her, while the third woman continued the path over the Purtschellersteig to the mountain station of the Schafbergbahn, took the train into the valley and only alerted the emergency services from there.

In the meantime, her two friends had tried to get back to the marked path, but had come into even steeper and rock -so well -served terrain – until they could no longer continue. “The heavy rain and the cold struck them, they were also poorly equipped,” said the mountain rescue. It could be seen in pictures that the women were wearing sneakers and leggings.
