Ukrainian airspace was completely closed, while Russian airspace was left open to recommendations and warnings from authorities and airport controllers.
In the aftermath of the conflict, European authorities have warned airlines to “be careful” when flying through parts of Russian airspace controlled by regional hubs in Moscow and Rostov.
In an updated bulletin, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) mentioned “increased military activity” given that there is a risk that “missiles penetrate controlled airspace”.
For its part, the Ukrainian airspace is completely closed. This was officially announced by the government of that country.
The decision to close the airspace was made official by the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure “due to the high security risk”. Air travel stopped shortly after midnight (local time).
How does it affect travel from Argentina?
The particularity of Argentina is that neither its flagship airlines nor those that circulate through the country have Ukraine as a direct destination. In other words, to get to that country, you must first make a stopover in one of the central points of Europe (such as Paris, Rome, Madrid, among others), so these flights should not be affected.
However, Aerolineas Argentinas offers flights to Moscow, the Russian capital, which could be affected by the armed conflict and the decisions of European air traffic controllers, according to the recommendations issued.
The flag carrier shares a route with Aeroflot, the Russian flag carrier. Argentines traveling to Moscow must make a stopover in Madrid, at which point they must transfer.
In the Spanish capital they continue the journey to Moscow through Aeroflot. Therefore, as long as the Russian airline maintains its services, the flights will continue with the stipulated normality.
In any case, aviation companies are taking the necessary precautions to avoid areas of armed conflict as much as possible.
