If there is talk of innovations in agriculture, then there is no way around the Rieder Messe on the Rieder HTL and the FH Upper Austria. They show at their stand what tractors of the future could be driven. Namely with methane, hydrogen, electrical energy or HVO diesel.

Hydrogen -powered agricultural vehicles could be ready for series production in ten years, says Christian Junger from the Vienna University of Technology. A prototype of a tractor that drives with hydrogen can be seen at the fair. “The technology is mature. The prototype shows that it works,” says the Innviertel researcher. The vision is that farmers also produce hydrogen as an energy source in the future. “A pilot plant is already running in Carinthia – with increased effort, but it works.”

The Tadus company from the Bavarian district of Traunstein is one step further. “Our electrical tractor is about to be ready for series production. We will start the test run soon, then the production will start in small numbers next year,” says Johanna Baier, who founded the Tadus company with her husband Thadäus. A joint research project with the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences has promoted this project.
