For reasons that have not yet been clarified, an 86-year-old had lost control of his car shortly before the so-called “connector fish curve” near the village of Sulzbach near Bad Ischl (district of Gmunden) and had gotten into the oncoming lane of the B145. The car collided head-on with an oncoming taxi driven by a 67-year-old.
The two drivers were trapped in their vehicles and had to be freed by the fire brigade using hydraulic rescue equipment. The 86-year-old sustained such serious injuries that he had to be taken to the state hospital in Salzburg by helicopter. His 82-year-old wife, the taxi driver and his 75-year-old passenger were taken to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Bad Ischl by the ambulance, the police informed in the evening.
The B145 had to be totally closed for a good hour. The emergency services of the Bad Ischl, Sulzbach and Pfandl fire brigades arrived for the rescue and clean-up work.
