Only Russians were at the start: FIS canceled the Ski Cross World Cup

After Russian troops invaded Ukraine, numerous nations, including Austria, withdrew their participants from the event on Thursday. In fact, only Russians were at the start in today’s Friday qualifying for the weekend competitions.

“In the interest of a fair competition, the jury decided to cancel the World Cup in Sunny Valley after the qualification,” announced the FIS. Efforts are being made to find a replacement location. The Aerials World Cup on Saturday and Sunday in Yaroslavl is still on the schedule. Further FIS World Cups are planned in Russia for the time being in March, such as those for women ski jumping in Nizhny Tagil and Tchaikovsky, in the aerials in Moscow and in cross-country skiing in Tyumen.

“The safety of the participants has the highest priority at all FIS World Cup events. The FIS, together with all stakeholders involved, is closely monitoring the escalation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict,” said the FIS on Thursday at the APA request.
