1.1 million cans arrived
The Covid vaccination Nuvaxovid from the US manufacturer Novavax arrived in Austria on Thursday afternoon. 1.1 million doses were brought to a warehouse in Lower Austria, according to the Association of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers (PHAGO).
Tens of thousands of people have signed up for the protein vaccine. It uses a more traditional technology than the other vaccines. In this way, in particular those people who have previously refused a vaccination could be addressed.
The Novavax agent is the fifth corona vaccine that has been approved in the EU. Two doses are injected about three weeks apart. The effectiveness for protection against symptomatic infections was given by the EU medicines authority EMA at around 90 percent. According to the Ministry of Health, Austria ordered a total of 3.1 million doses of Novavax for the first quarter.
The 1.1 million doses of the first tranche came from the plant of the vaccine manufacturer Novavax in Roermond in the Netherlands to a PHAGO central vaccine warehouse. The PHAGO companies take over the distribution of the vaccines in Austria from the location. The doses are then stored at a total of 17 PHAGO locations in all federal states until they are called up by the vaccination centers. According to the association, the five full pharmaceutical wholesalers have so far delivered over 17 million doses of Covid vaccines during the pandemic – specifically to vaccination lines, doctors, pharmacies and companies.
