The horror was great: while walking along the new planetary path on the Danube quay, Franz Schmalwieser forgot his men’s handbag with 850 euros and all his IDs. “At Saturn I put my bag, which I usually never have with me, on the rubbish bin and was so enthusiastic about taking the picture that I completely forgot about it.” Schmalwieser only noticed the loss when he got home in Neustadtl (Lower Austria) and returned immediately around and searched the entire way. But without success. “I had already given up hope that I would ever see my money and ID again,” Schmalwieser was sure that someone had confiscated his bag.
But a short time later the phone rang and the Greiner building yard manager Johann Raffezeder answered. He discovered the bag while walking his dog and initially thought it was rubbish. Only on closer inspection did the content become apparent. Since the contact details were also in his pocket, he called Franz Schmalwieser without hesitation, which was a great relief. “For me it was a matter of course to return the bag and its contents. If I ever lose something, I hope that the finder will do the same,” emphasizes the community worker.
In doing so, he gave Franz Schmalwieser back his belief in the good in people: “The municipality of Grein can be proud to have such an honest employee.” Since the honest finder did not want to accept a reward, Franz Schmalwieser turned to Greiner Mayor Rainer Barth . He arranged an “appointment” at the town hall, at which Franz Schmalwieser thanked the finder personally with a gift basket.
