Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has sparked anger and dismay around the world. Around the world, demonstrators took to the streets in solidarity with the Eastern European country. Buildings and monuments were illuminated in the blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian flag – from the Brandenburg Gate to the Roman Colosseum and 10 Downing Street in London to Flinders Street Station in Melbourne, Australia. Linz is also setting a sign of solidarity. From the night to Saturday will the Castle Museum lit up in the national colors of Ukraine, blue and yellow. This was announced by the state of Upper Austria and the OÖ Landes-Kultur GmbH. In addition to the two million euros in emergency aid that all federal states are providing because of the humanitarian emergency of many war victims, they also want to set a “sign for peace and for an end to violence”, according to Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP).


As a sign of solidarity with Ukraine, buildings in many countries are illuminated in the Ukrainian national colors of blue and yellow. In Vienna and Klagenfurt, the Ukrainian flag was hoisted on Friday at the town hall and at the office of the Carinthian state government. There were also demonstrations and prayers for peace.
