With only 23 years in doctoral studies

At an age when others are just completing their bachelor’s degree, Katharina Steiner from St. Georgen im Attergau is already a doctoral student. The 23-year-old has been studying food and biotechnology at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz since 2021. As a research assistant at the Wood K plus facility – Competence Center Wood, she researches how mixed textiles can be recycled and side streams from the paper and pulp industry can be used. “My vision is a resource-saving and sustainable circular economy,” says Katharina Steiner.

The 23-year-old completed her studies after graduating from the Bundesrealgymnasium Vöcklabruck in minimum time. It took her three years to get her bachelor’s degree in organic food technology and two years to get her master’s degree in biotechnology. Steiner’s first career aspiration was to become a postwoman. She followed this up in 2020 with a holiday job at the post office. In her free time, the young technician likes to run, hike and do gymnastics.

“Dream job technology”

The “dream job technology” will again take place virtually this year. On Wednesday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., AHS pupils in the sixth and seventh grades can immerse themselves in the digital world of technical professions and receive detailed information on training and studies at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz and the universities of applied sciences in Upper Austria in 22 workshops . The OÖN support the initiative of the Kepler University and the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, as well as the regional school board and the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce.
