Comoros plane crashes in Indian Ocean

Comoros plane with two pilots and 12 passengers on board crashed in the Indian Ocean, the wreckage was found. This was announced on February 26 by local authorities.

A light-engine liner of the Comorian airline AB Aviation crashed at about noon (the same time as Moscow time) off the island of Moheli. 12 passengers from the islands and two crew members from Tanzania were on board a single-engine Cessna 208B that took off from Grand Comore around 11:50.

“The plane disappeared from radar on approach to Moheli Island, about 2.5 km from the coast,” the Le Quotidien portal quotes the words of an airline spokesman.

Later it became known that the AB Aviation aircraft, flying to Moheli, was seen near the city of Fomboni before disappearing from the radar. He flew at an altitude of 863 feet (263 m) at a speed of 92 knots or 172 km/h. The aircraft was on approach to Bandar El Salam Airport when the crash occurred. Rescuers rushed to the scene.

“During the search work carried out by the government agencies involved for this purpose, with the support of the Dzaudzi airport, aircraft wreckage began to be found in the coastal zone of Joyezi,” the presidential administration said in a statement posted on Facebook.

In Peru, on February 5, a light plane crashed while carrying tourists on excursions along the lines of the Nazca desert. Seven people died. Among the dead were three tourists from the Netherlands, two Chilean tourists and two Peruvian pilots, local police said.
