Governor: Kharkiv back under full Ukrainian control

Kharkiv is completely under our control,” said the governor of the region of the same name, Oleg Sinegubov, on Sunday on the messenger app Telegram. Now an action is underway in the second largest Ukrainian city to drive the Russian soldiers out of the city completely.

Sinegubov announced on Sunday morning that Russian soldiers had entered the city. The Russian army penetrated accordingly to the city center of Kharkiv in front. The fighting affected several locations in the urban area. A reporter from the AFP news agency reported on violent street fighting. Machine gun fire and explosions have been heard since the morning. He also saw several abandoned Russian armored vehicles and a burned-out wreck, the reporter said. The streets were deserted.

Meanwhile, on the fourth day after the Russian invasion, Ukrainian authorities also reported ongoing fighting in the area around Kiev. In a residential area in the capital itself, an explosion occurred in a backyard, the city administration announced on Sunday. Seven cars were destroyed and many windows of an adjacent 16-story high-rise building were shattered. The agency also released a photo said to show a crater that a grenade could have caused. It was initially not possible to independently verify whether Russian soldiers were actually behind the attack. Kiev accuses Moscow of also targeting civilians. Russia vehemently denies this.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on the social network Telegram that nine civilians, including a child, had been killed in Kiev in the past few days. 18 Ukrainian security forces were also killed. So far, 106 people have been injured, including 47 civilians.

According to a media report, the Russian armed forces also announced the “complete blockade” of the southern Ukrainian cities of Cherson and Berdyansk on Sunday.
