Ukraine sued Russia before the highest UN court

“We ask for an urgent decision that order Russia to cease its military activityand we expect the hearings to start next week,” added the president.

The International Court of Justice, based in The Hague, Netherlands, has no mandate to file criminal charges against Russian leaders behind the invasion of Ukraine, which began at dawn last Thursday, four days ago.

However, the court, which is the supreme judicial institution of the United Nations, is the highest court in the world to resolve legal claims between states for alleged violations of international law.

Russia justified its “demilitarization” operation in Ukraine as an attempt to prevent the alleged persecution and “genocide” of the country’s Rus minority.

The international community quickly condemned the invasion as a flagrant violation of international law.
