The Russian airline Aeroflot announced the cancellation of all flights to Europe. This became known on Monday, February 28.
The decision is due to “airspace restrictions imposed by European authorities,” the carrier said on its Twitter page.
Earlier in the day, the European Union announced on the complete closure of its airspace for Russia. It is clarified that the ban affects both passenger and private flights.
On February 27, France banned flights over its territory for Russian aircraft. On the same day, several other countries closed the airspace for Russian aircraft – Germany, Italy, Sweden, Iceland, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Norway, Canada, Spain. Earlier, Romania, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria also joined the sanctions.
On February 25, the Russian airline S7 Airlines announced the cancellation of all flights to Europe from February 26 to March 13. The company clarified that these are flights to Burgas, Varna, Munich, Vienna, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Verona, Bologna, Milan, Alicante, Barcelona, Larnaca, Paphos, Thessaloniki, Nice and Paris. Sale of tickets for these flights after March 13 is temporarily suspended.
The Federal Air Transport Agency reported that the issue of the export of Russian citizens from European countries is being worked out with representatives of the relevant departments. Russian airlines are ready to fulfill their obligations to passengers and deliver them home, the ministry assured.
