Sun prevails: “Spring is approaching quietly”

“We have a changeable but very sunny week ahead of us,” says Liliane Hofer from the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG). Because today’s Monday starts with a lot of sunshine – especially in the Innviertel, in the east, on the other hand, denser clouds are forming during the day due to the north-east wind. In the morning the temperatures are still between minus six and minus one degree, in the afternoon the thermometer reaches values around six degrees. “After the night is partially starry and there are hardly any clouds, the icy temperatures in the morning stay with us,” says Hofer.

There will be early temperatures of up to minus eight degrees throughout the week, while the sun will prevail during the day – especially on Tuesday, when only isolated early morning fog patches can occur. The sun shines for the rest of the day and the daytime temperatures reach maximum values of up to eight degrees. “But the sun is now so powerful that the air outside feels much warmer. Spring is approaching quietly,” says meteorologist Hofer.

More sun than clouds

Next Wednesday there will be hardly any change in the spring-like weather conditions. During the day denser clouds pass through, which shields the sun somewhat, the daily highs reach, as well as on Tuesday, eight degrees. “From the current perspective, precipitation is not an issue this week, and the wind is also taking a break at around 30 km/h,” says Hofer.

On Thursday and Friday it will remain mostly sunny in Upper Austria, only the early morning temperatures will remain cold. “But there is no risk of ice on the road due to the lack of precipitation,” says Hofer. There could be rain again on Sunday. (cape)
