The “Open Technology Lab” (Otelo) in Grieskirchen will be retained: The association will be provided with premises at Prechtlerstraße 18a at a rental price. The move will take place in March, and events can then take place in the new premises from May. “I’m really relieved that we can keep our meeting point,” says club director Heinz Plohberger.
As reported, the club has to leave the previous premises, which the Grieskirchen brewery had also made available for rent. “It was always agreed that if the worst came to the worst, we would move out quickly. We were even able to stay a month longer than originally planned,” says Plohberger.
The new clubhouse will be much smaller than the old one at around 80 square meters, but the club will only have to pay the operating costs. Plohberger is confident: “We have enough space to offer a rich program from early summer.” Also: The new restaurant is easier to reach on foot.
The reduction is mainly at the expense of the permanent flea market, which was set up in the old clubhouse. The sale is still ongoing. “We have already covered all the costs incurred by the move. Our members have done a really great job,” says Plohberger. Nevertheless, the loss of continuous flea market income will hurt a little. “It was an important source of income for us, we’ll see how we can balance that out. But we always come up with something.” In addition, the operating costs in the new restaurant are a little higher. “I hope that the city, which has already helped us with the costs, will continue to help us.”
The basic idea of Otelo is that of “free space”: The association provides premises in which interested members of the public can hold events, courses and meetings. The center is open to everyone, there are no contributions or entrance fees. “Anyone should really be able to come, we want to keep the threshold as low as possible and appeal to everyone.” (vaba)
