Albania and Croatia will close the airspace for Russian aviation

Albania and Croatia will close the airspace for aircraft of Russian airlines. This became known on Sunday, February 27.

According to Reuters, referring to Albanian Foreign Minister Olta Jachka, the country’s decision is connected with the recommendations of the European Union and will come into force on the night of Sunday to Monday.

The Croatian Cabinet also decided to ban Russian aircraft from flying over the country. Several meetings on Sunday were devoted to this topic.

“Russia’s unprovoked aggression violates all the foundations of the security order, and therefore we are closing airspace for Russian airlines, establishing defense cooperation with Ukraine,” the Croatian government wrote on its page in Twitter.

Earlier in the day, France and Norway banned flights over their countries for Russian aircraft. On the same day, several more countries will close the airspace for Russian aircraft: Germany, Italy, Sweden, Iceland, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark and Ireland.

A day earlier, Romania also banned Russian airlines from flying in its airspace. On the same day, Lithuania announced plans to close the skies for Russian airlines. Estonia also joined the boycott.

At the same time, Poland, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria notified Russian airlines of the flight ban. Russia, in turn, also closed the airspace for air carriers from these countries.
