Grossi highlighted the disposition of both parties to carry out the necessary repairs: “Both parties claim to be prepared to carry out the necessary repairs on their respective sides of the front line. But for this to happen, the security situation in the field must improve so that the technicians can carry out their vital work without endangering their lives. ”
Nuclear accident risk
The OIEA warned that A total blackout could trigger a serious accident with fusion of fuel and the potential release of radiation to the environment. Although emergency diesel generators normally work and there are wide fuel reserves, Grossi described the situation as “unprecedented” and said that it must be resolved “Without further delay.”
“I call on both parties to do what is necessary and avoid greater deterioration. This depends on the political will, not on the technical viability, which exists,” said the director of the OIEA, according to a cable from the Xinhua news agency.
